Setting the Standard for Focus
Healthcare professionals demonstrate exceptional concentration in an increasingly distracted world. ActivTrak's 2025 State of the Workplace Report shows healthcare leads all industries1 with 4 hrs 47 mins of daily focused time — 36 mins longer than the cross-industry average.
This strength extends to focused session time, where healthcare again ranks first with 17 mins 48 secs per session— over 4 mins longer than the cross-industry average. Despite a 13% decrease, healthcare still maintains the longest periods of uninterrupted concentration among all sectors.
Healthcare also shows strong productivity metrics, ranking sixth in daily productive time at 6 hrs 26 mins — 9 mins above the cross-industry average. More notably, it ranks third in productive session time at 27 mins 41 secs, a 38% increase — the second-largest improvement across all industries.

Rapid AI Adoption Growth
While healthcare shows the strongest focus metrics, it currently has the lowest AI adoption rates at 44% — 14% below the cross-industry average. However, adoption is accelerating fast, with a 193% increase, the largest across all industries.
Healthcare professionals who use AI tools spend 10 mins 12 secs daily with them — 29 secs more than the cross-industry average. This suggests that when healthcare workers adopt AI, they may integrate it more meaningfully into their workflows.

Balancing Efficiency & Well-Being
Healthcare shows promising trends in employee well-being, with 69% of employees maintaining healthy work patterns — a 13% improvement from 2023. The industry also reduced both overutilization and underutilization in the same time period.
Burnout risk dropped to 5%, a 27% decrease from 2023, aligning with the broader trend of declining burnout across industries.
These numbers reflect successful organizational efforts to build more resilient healthcare workplaces — without sacrificing productivity.
Collaboration Trends
Healthcare professionals spend 30 mins per day on collaboration — 8 mins below the cross-industry average. However, that represents a 52% increase, the third-largest jump across all industries, suggesting growing emphasis on team-based coordination while maintaining strong focus on individual tasks.
Weekend Work Patterns
Only 3% of healthcare employees work weekends2 — 2% below the cross-industry average. Those working both Saturday and Sunday average 5 hrs 44 mins, more than those working only Saturday (5 hrs 27 mins) or Sunday (4 hrs 25 mins).
Contextualizing Industry Performance
The broader cross-industry workplace trends from the report provide valuable context:
- The average workday is 36 mins (7%) shorter while being 2% more productive
- 70% of employees maintain healthy work patterns — the highest level in three years
- Remote-only workers show the highest daily productivity (+29 mins) vs. other worker types
- AI users show longer workdays (+8 mins), more collaboration time (+17 mins), but less focus time (-27 mins)
Healthcare both aligns with and diverges from broader workplace trends. While embracing shorter workdays, healthcare professionals maintain the longest focus periods across all sectors — even as AI adoption often correlates with reduced concentration. As AI adoption grows, healthcare organizations should monitor whether focus levels remain steady.
Looking Ahead
As healthcare balances human touch with technological advancement, optimizing productivity patterns will be key to delivering exceptional patient care while maintaining sustainable work practices.
Organizations that preserve focus while integrating AI and enhancing collaboration will be best positioned to improve clinical outcomes and employee satisfaction.
